I am working in the Software/IT industry and, a masters in Computer Science. I am a yoga practitioner, spiritualist, analyst on Vedas, Upanishads, Puran and various Sanskrit texts, home /family maker, Gardner, teacher and constant learner.
As a child my mother would read story books to me and after it was finished she would ask me to draw the pictures from the storybook. She motivated, encouraged, and appreciated my initial efforts as a child. This enabled me to become a self-taught artist. I am intrigued by the art and architecture of ancient Indian temples. I started to study them and, I was amazed to find the many depictions of women hunting, reading, riding horses, and fighting wars. These sculptures inspired me and I decided to paint them in acrylic on canvas. Below are a few paintings from the Empowered Women series.
क्षणशः कणशश्चैव विद्यामर्थं च साधयेत् | क्षणे नष्टे कुतो विद्या कणे नष्टे कुतो धनम् ||
History: The below painting is inspired by the sculpture of women (below) from the 10th century, Kandariya Mahadeva temple- built by King Vidyadhara to celebrate victory over Mahmud of Ghazni. It shows a women writing a letter. Who is this women ? what is she writing ? According to some sources this sculpture is that of Rukhmini writing to Krishna. Whoever she is it clearly shows that women knew to read and write.
About the painting – I was deeply inspired by the beauty of the original sculpture especially, the details of her jewelry and hair style. I have kept her jewelry and clothing as similar as possible , The only additions are the flowers, trees, mountains, lake and cloudy sky in the background. I have removed her attendant also as I felt that was not required to complete the intent of my picture

History :The below painting is inspired by sculpture of female warrior (image below ) in Hampi which was the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire . By 1500 CE, Hampi-Vijayanagara was the world's second-largest medieval-era city after Beijing, and probably India's richest at that time. The Vijayanagara Empire was defeated, its capital was conquered, pillaged and destroyed by coalition of invading sultanates armies in 1565, after which Hampi remained in ruins.
About the painting: This beautiful women warrior is holding a large bow and a defeated King is seeking her refuge by sitting near her foot. The warrior women is giving him protection which is shown by her left hand in blessing pose. The interesting thing to notice is that she is wearing shorts. So, in my painting also I have drawn shorts. I have depicted night time with moon and clouds showing end of war when a king or soldier has come in the refuge. A pillar and trees are painted for completion. If you notice carefully her jwellary is smooth . She is wearing some sort of crown and a breast band. This may have also served as a means of protection.

About the painting: I have changed the background to clouds so that the image pops out as a divine scene. She is almost ready to shoot the arrow. The dynamism of th scene is shown by use of vibrant and bright background colors of red, blue and green

History : The below painting is inspired by the sculpture ( below ) called as Lekhana Sundari ( writing beauty ). This sculpture is part of the Ishwara temple at Jalasangvi or Jalasangi, in Bidar District in Karnataka. It is an important place of Kalyan Chalukya art and architecture.
The Jalasangvi Ishwara temple (1110 AD) was built during the reign of Vikramaditya VI (1076 - 1226 AD).She has written a few lines in old Kannada script — it is a eulogy to King Vikramaditya VI, who also had the epithet Vishnuvardhana. The script reads “Saptadveepodaree Bhutam Bhutalam Swakarishayati Chalukya Vikramaditya Saptamo Vishnuvardhanah” (Vikramaditya of the Chalukya dynasty captures and rules the land between the seven oceans).
About the painting: I was inspired because this painting shows a women. writing. This debunks the theory that women were backward. I have kept the original Jwellary but added a lot of gems to it. Green is a popular color in sari's so I made her clothing in green. She is wearing rings on her fingers too, and the angle in which she is holding the door board makes it unique. However, I am also curious why she could not take the board down, write on it and put it back on the door of her house ?.

History : The below painting is inspired by the sculpture below where a women is holding 2 swords. this is from Jain Temple in Jaisalmer from 12th century
About the painting: This dynamic sculpture shows a fearless women skilled in sword fight which inspired me to convert this to painting. I have changed the background to a pillar and added some background trees, To keep Rajasthani painting characteristic I have made large eyes, and a small body. I have tried to blend natural looks and typical characteristic of Rajasthani art. I have purposely chosen vibrant colors mainly - yellow, orange and red as Rajasthan is all about bright colors and I want the picture to glitter & look intense.
